Year 7 sponsor a puppy for Guide Dogs 06.05.16

Year 7 chose the Guide Dogs as their charity to support in the Spring term. the charity trains around 780 guide dogs each year – to train just one costs over £34,000, but they are so important as they give people who are blind and partially sighted the same freedom of movement as everyone else.

The pupils worked exceptionally hard to raise as much as they could. Among the events they organised were house colour food sales, a Lush raffle, a sponsored run and several cake sales. Collectively they raised over £885 towards the sponsorship of a puppy. This amount enabled them to also choose the name of the puppy.

Steve, Alys and their dogs Ringo and Lola from Guide Dogs came into assembly to hear about the fundraising from the pupils and were presented with a cheque from the charity reps of each form. They also picked the name of their new puppy from a very long list of choices – the winning name was ‘Cookie’ much to everybody’s delight!

Well done year 7 – what a fantastic achievement!
