Year 13 Bea, does us proud at the Burghley Horse Trials 08.10.14

BSPS GOLD CUP SPORTS PONY FINAL held at Burghley Horse Trials, Stamford on 7th September 2014.

Year 13, Bea, and Rocky qualified for this prestigious competition at the BSPS Winter Championships in April of this year.  It is a fiercely fought and exciting competition. Finalists battle it out through the 3 phases of Dressage, Cross Country/Working Hunter jumping/Gallop and Showjumping tracks, against the most beautiful backdrop that is Burghley House.  Chrissie Wheeler, Owner of The White Company sponsored the event and presented the prizes.  Only 12 can qualify for the final (15hh WHP Riders 21 and under).  It was the first time Bea had qualified for this event, so after riding a very good dressage test and a fantastic clear round in the Working Hunter phase, which is marked out of 100 (60 jumping, 20 style, 10 gallop, 10 effectiveness of rider) we were all absolutely thrilled when we heard the results that they were leading the field with top scores in the dressage and working hunter style round and gallop phases.   It was very exciting for us all but as Bea was last to go in the showjumping, the pressure and excitement was at it’s peak! Bea had to go clear to take the title and after jumping the initial difficult fences beautifully they unfortunately knocked a pole 3rd fence from home adding penalties.  They still had a good place however, but Bea will be hoping that next year if they qualify, a final clear round will give her the title she so nearly received . They were both fabulous!
