Track and Field Cup 10.07.12

The track and field cup has again proved to be both an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable competition this year. Both teams have worked hard to prepare for the competitions with more girls than in previous years representing the school, as girls improved in their events. On Thursday 17th May the Junior and Senior teams were selected to compete in the County round of the track and field cup competition. Despite the weather on the day not being ideal for athletics both teams won their competitions and qualified for the Regional final.

On Thursday 21st June the Junior and Senior teams travelled to Tipton to compete in the Regional finals. Both teams made incredible progress from the County rounds, including many of the girls securing their personal bests, they should all be proud of their achievements. The Intermediate team secured second place scoring 350 and narrowly missed out on winning the competition by 9 points. The Junior teams final total of 358 assured them first position and a place as the Midlands Champions at the National Finals.

On Saturday 30th June the national finals were held at Chelmsford Sports and Athletic Centre, Essex. The whole team performed well with many Loughborough High School girls winning their events. However the best most exciting event was last, the relay! The LHS team were ‘psyched’ and ran an absolutely superb race to win in a time of 56.8 seconds beating all teams by over 3 seconds! The squad should be extremely proud of their performances and the fact that they have performed at this standard! They finished in 11th place on the day, well done!
