All pupils study food up to the end of year 8 and may continue it as an option in year 9. The focus is on various aspects of food, nutrition and health. The courses include practical sessions where pupils prepare a wide variety of dishes. An interest in food is encouraged and pupils learn to enjoy food preparation and realise the importance of organisation and good standards of food hygiene. The department offers CIEH Level 2 Award in Healthier Food and Special Diets in year 9 and food preparation and nutrition at GCSE level.  After exploring the post 16 options, we believe that we will offer the WJEC Level 3 Food Science and Nutrition Diploma. This is recognised by universities and is equivalent to an A level.
