Loughborough Foxes U16s Football

Two Year 11 girls recently competed as part of the Loughborough Foxes U16 football team in the U16s Leicester City and County League Cup Final against Leicester City Ladies. The girls, along with the rest of their team, played some of their best football; the team managed to concede only 2 goals, with the final score being a 2-0 victory to Leicester City. This is an amazing score for Loughborough Foxes against an academy team. Loughborough Foxes U16s were also awarded the 2012/2013 season’s fair play award.

Galpothawala Primary School in Sri Lanka

During the Easter holiday Miss Partridge had the amazing opportunity to visit our link school in Sri Lanka to see the fantastic work that the charity Rebuilding Sri Lanka has been doing. Loughborough High School started to support the charity in 2009 and have been linked to Galpothawala Primary School. During the visit, Miss Partridge was able to meet the children and teachers of Galpothwala School, to help hand out the nutrition packets of powdered milk and biscuits, to give out goodie bags for the children, gifts for the teachers and to spend the morning doing a hand painting Art project with the 70 children. The school’s aim now is to raise funds to continue the nutrition programme, to help rebuild their school hall roof and fund an additional toilet block.

Eco-Schools Ambassador

Loughborough High School has been awarded a prestigious role as an Eco-Schools ambassador for 2013-2015. Our particular focus as ambassadors is to be on fundraising for project work. Only 11 schools nationwide have received the award this year across primary, secondary, independent and maintained sectors.The award is the culmination of a huge amount of hard work for Mrs Snelling, Miss Partridge, Alice Watson and the entire Eco team, who should be congratulated for their commitment. However, the success of the project would not have been possible without the efforts of the entire LHS community.

CCF Review

The 56th Combined Cadet Force Review which took place on Saturday 27 April included members of the High School for the first time. Following the Inspection by Group Captain Gillespie (Station Commander, RAF Waddington) spectators were treated to drill displays by the RAF and Army Sections and the Annual Inter-Service Field Gun Competition. Congratulations to all who contributed to a superb display of esprit de corps.

Charity Netball Match

Towards the end of the spring term some of our sixth formers took part in an organised boys v girls charity netball match in aid of Rebuilding Sri Lanka. The boys dressed up in fancy dress and it was a hilarious match! Despite their best efforts the boys struggled to obey to the rules especially not being able to move with the ball! We managed to raise £63.79 with the final score 14-4 to the girls. Hopefully this will become part of the sports calendar for years to come!

Leicestershire Hockey Leagues

Congratulations to the under 14 and under 13A hockey teams for winning the Leicestershire Leagues. The Under 13A hockey team came second in their County tournament and qualified for the Regional Finals in Cannock.

Grading Success for LHS Karate Club

Six LHS girls attended the grading event at Holme Pierrepont National Water Sports Centre recently and all of them were promoted to orange belt – the first rung of the ladder to black belt!

U12 County Hockey Success

Congratulations to the squad who were crowned county champions on Monday 18 March. They won all of their matches and now represent Leicestershire at the regional tournament in April.

ISFA Shield

Congratulations to the LHS football team who represented the school at the East Midlands regional finals in March. The team finished 2nd overall in the region and consequently won the Independent Schools Football Association’s shield. The team recorded an impressive 4-0 victory in their opening game against Oakham School and followed this with a battling 2-2 against pre tournament favourites and eventual regional champions Stamford. These results were followed by inspiring victories over Repton and Uppingham. The defence kept three clean sheets on the day and strikers Beth Johnson and Katy Litchfield showed predatory instinct to score several vital goals.

LEBC Fashion Show

This is our 4^th year taking part in the LEBC Fashion Show at the Athena Theatre, Leicester on March 14^th with our year 10 textile design pupils.

The fashion show is aimed for schools within Leicestershire to be part of a professional fashion show and is now in its 11^th year.

The GCSE group based their collection on Japanese art, patterns and origami and was inspired by John Galliano’s Haute Couture collection 2007.

GCSE Collection was called “Folded”
Once again we had a fantastic evening and a rewarding experience.
