Year 12 (Sixth Form)

We welcome enquiries from students interested in transferring to LHS at sixth form level and believe that this can be mutually enriching.

We offer the following opportunities to visit us which we believe will enable you to gain a sense of the character and atmosphere of the school as well as to see the facilities so that you are well placed to decide whether Loughborough High School is a school where you feel that you/your daughter would be happy and thrive.

  • In October there will be a sixth form taster morning aimed at year 11 girls. The morning will include tours of the school and the opportunity to meet current sixth formers and staff as well as to sample year 12 lessons. Please contact the Registrar in advance for further details and to register.
  • On the first Saturday in October we hold our main open morning between 9.00 am and 12.30 pm.  Everyone is welcome and there is no need to register in advance.
  • Personal appointments with the Headmistress, Mrs Byrom, and tours of the school on a working day are also available on request.

Girls who wish to apply for entry to the sixth form in September 2014 should submit a completed registration form by early November 2013 when interviews will be held. Further interviews may be held during the spring term, 2014 subject to the availability of places.

Following a successful interview a provisional offer of a place will be made which is dependent on:

  • the receipt of a satisfactory reference from your current school;
  • your achievement of good GCSE results.  Typically, we require A or A* grades in the subjects you plan to continue at AS level and you will be expected to achieve at least 5 B grades overall which should include maths, English and a science (whatever the subjects to be taken at A level).

In practice this can mean that you would need more than 5 GCSEs at grade B or above.

Example 1

If you plan to study history, geography, French and biology you would require A or A* in these four subjects plus at least a B in maths and English.

Example 2

If you wish to take psychology, English, maths and history you would require an A or A* in history, English and maths (assuming you have not studied psychology at GCSE level) and at least a B in two other subjects including a science.

Furthermore, individual subjects may have specific requirements at GCSE; for example, a grade B in mathematics is required in order to study economics at AS level.  However, each application is considered individually and offers made accordingly.

You will be asked to contact us on GCSE results day to notify us of the grades you have achieved and, provided you have met the requirements specified in your offer letter, the provisional offer will be confirmed straight away.

Please contact Mrs Brackstone, the Registrar, by email registrar@leshigh.org or on her direct line, 01509 283800, if you have any questions about the admissions process or the school.
