Year 12 (Sixth Form)

Entry to the Sixth Form at Loughborough High School

We welcome enquiries from students interested in transferring to LHS at sixth form level and believe that this can be mutually enriching.

If you would like to visit the school to find out more, we offer the following opportunities:

  • On Saturday 29th September 2018 we hold our main open morning between 9.00 am and 1.30 pm. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to register in advance.
  • Students currently in year 11 are invited to attend a taster morning to meet current sixth formers and staff as well as to sample year 12 lessons. Please contact the Registrar for further details and to reserve a place on the next taster morning which will be held on Friday 3 November.
  • Personal appointments with the Headmistress, Mrs Byrom, and tours of the school on a working day are available on request.

Students who wish to apply for entry to the sixth form in September 2018 should submit a completed registration from by early November 2017, when interviews will be held. Further interviews may be held during the spring term 2018 subject to the availability of places.

Following a successful interview a provisional offer of a place will be made which is dependent on:

the receipt of a satisfactory reference from your current school

your achievement of good GCSE results.  Typically, we require A or A* grades (or at least a grade 7 in the new system) in the subjects you plan to continue and you will be expected to achieve at least 5 B (or 6) grades overall which should include maths, English and a science (regardless of the subjects to be taken at A level).

In practice this can mean that you would need more than 5 GCSEs at grade B/6 or above.

Example 1

If you plan to study history, geography, French and biology you would require A or A* (or 7- 9) in these four subjects plus at least a B/6 in maths and English.

Example 2

If you wish to take psychology, English, maths and history you would require an A or A*/7-9 in history, English and maths and at least a B/6 in two other subjects including a science.

In addition, individual subjects may have specific requirements at GCSE; for example, a grade B/6 in mathematics is required in order to study economics.  However, each application is considered individually and offers made accordingly.

You will be asked to contact us on GCSE results day to notify us of the grades you have achieved and, provided you have met the requirements specified in your offer letter, the provisional offer will be confirmed straight away.
