Charities

It has been a very busy charity fund-raising term with all classes entering into the fundraising spirit to achieve a total over £6,500 to date. Rainbows, our chosen school charity for the autumn term, will receive £3000 towards their new extension.
We have supported again the Myasthenia Gravis Association with Year 7 and 8 planting daffodil bulbs alongside the newly established “Chesterton” hedge. Our participation in the national “Big Coffee Morning” was a resounding success and Year 12 sold hot chocolate and home baked cakes to raise £300 for The Macmillan nurses. Children in Need and the Disasters Emergency Committee were supported by the whole school with a non uniform day and again the Year 12s rose to the occasion by organising a successful lunchtime beauty parlour. This allowed us to help the victims of the recent earthquake & cyclone that swept across much of Indonesia.
The annual Fair Trade café was well supported by pupils, staff and parents raising several hundred pounds for craft workers in the developing world. The Charnwood Toy Appeal, organised by 13RT, collected 16 bags of soft toys for local distribution. A joint Year 8 disco with LGS proved to be another hit, raising well over £600 for Tsolo High School in South Africa.
The girls have developed innovative ways to fundraise, including running a Smartie Challenge, a gift-wrap and Christmas card postal service and a jewellery sale.
The school was very honoured to win a prestigious, national Giving Nation charity award of £1000. Five students and two members of staff were invited to an awards ceremony held at HM Treasury where we were presented with a certificate of excellence for our charity and social action work in the local community.
A culture of giving is truly embedded in the school and we are thankful for all the support that the girls, parents and friends provide to enable us to continue our charity work.
